Copper manifold
A copper manifold is used for lautering. It is an alternative to a traditional false bottom or a bazooka screen. It is cheap, efficient and easy to make. An advantage is that the pipes can be left unsoldered (push-fit), allowing easy disassembly and visual alignment of the arms.
Part list
All pipes are cut from one 2 m long Cu 15×1 mm half-hard pipe.
Cost: 700 CZK (~33 USD)
| Part | Quantity |
|---|---|
| Elbow 45° | 8× |
| T-piece | 7× |
| Elbow 90° (optional) | 1× |
| Pipe 105 mm | 4× |
| Pipe 65 mm | 2× |
| Pipe 90 mm | 6× |
| Pipe 25 mm | 6× |
Required tools
- Safety glasses (mandatory!)
- Angle grinder – for cutting pipes to length
- Microdrill with 0.5 mm grinding wheels (25 mm diameter) – for cutting slits
- Round file – for cleaning internal burrs
- Vise
Notes on slit cutting
The slits are approximately 0.6 mm wide – narrow enough to retain grain husks while allowing wort to pass through. Grinding wheels wear down quickly and occasionally break. Always wear safety glasses.
